After returning home in May, we immediately began maintaining the car and making some optimizations. There was this one issue we had right from the beginning of our tour: too much rust in the old fuel tank that we put in the car as a spare part. It seems a bit too old, but we chose to keep it because it didn’t leak any fuel. At least at first. On our way back home, we noticed a dark spot on the bottom of the tank that was constantly growing. It had rusted through. Fortunately, it wasn’t too bad, and we were able to put in the new tank without losing a drop of diesel.

This rusty hull led to some adventures, and the adventures were many. Every once in a while, the car suddenly turned off due to lack of fuel. Each time, it seemed like a bigger piece of rust was blocking the pipe out of the tank. Fortunately, we had a compressor, so resolving these issues was easy. We just needed to unplug the hose from the engine and blow the piece back into the tank. Sometimes, the additional line filter needed to be cleaned. We were usually driving again in less than five minutes. The only annoying thing was how unpredictable the issue was. The worst situations were on crowded highways where there was limited space to pull over. Additionally, driving up serpentines with a fuel level of half or below was sometimes horrible. Once in Morocco, we got stuck every few kilometers. We gave up and turned around, driving down until we reached a gas station.

Well, those times are over! We are now traveling in the direction we have wanted to ever since: east. We just entered the Czech Republic today. We are very thankful for all the people who helped us reach this point! Several friends helped us, even if only a little. Some friends and family helped us more than a little. Without all of you, we would not be where we are today. Thank you so much!
