We are leaving Georgia today to head further east. As mentioned in an earlier post, we were stressed by the attempt to obtain paper visas. Ultimately, we now have e-visas for the same country. They’re the right choice. Let’s call a spade a spade: this is about visas for the Russian Federation.
We wanted to apply for transit visas in Tbilisi. But these would force us to drive about 1000 km to Kazakhstan within less than three days. That’s exactly what one would call a transit, but we want to do some tourism, too. Russia is a beautiful country. It would be a huge waste to just drive through it.
Due to geopolitical developments, some of our friends and family are afraid for us to go there. Fortunately, Russia could be gotten to know through earlier visits by me, Felix. I believe that the stated fears are based on biased information. I’ve always had a great time there. The people were incredibly warm and welcoming, and there is so much to learn from their culture. And there is even more to see — so much more! Russia is a vast country with a wide variety of facets. For that reason, it got one of my favorite destinations, which I would love to visit more often. I’d say it’s my favorite.
Now is the time to experience the wonders of Siberia east of the Ural Mountains. We are excited to gain new impressions and share them with our people, hopefully helping to ease some of their concerns.
